Suhi Fair – Himachal GK

 

  • The Suhi fair takes place in Chamba every year in the month of April.
  • The fair is exclusively for women and children.
  • It is held in memory of Queen Sunayana, wife of Raja Sahil Varman.
  • It is said that during the foundation of Chamba city, there was a serious water problem. To solve the issue, the king of Chamba ordered water to be brought from the Sarotha stream, about two miles away from the city, through canal.
  • According to the legend, one night the king heard a divine voice in his dream saying that water would come through the canal only if either the queen or a son of the king was buried alive at the source of the water. So, the queen decided to sacrifice her life.
  • King Sahil Varman later built a memorial on top of the hill overlooking the town where the canal flows. A stone idol in memory of the queen is enshrined there. This idol is still worshipped with great reverence by the people of Chamba.

सुही मेला – हिमाचल सामान्य ज्ञान

  • सुही मेला, चंबा में हर साल अप्रैल के महीने में लगता है।
  • यह मेला खास तौर पर महिलाओं और बच्चों के लिए होता है।
  • यह राजा साहिल वर्मन की पत्नी रानी सुनयना की याद में आयोजित किया जाता है।
  • ऐसा कहा जाता है कि चंबा शहर की स्थापना के समय पानी की गंभीर समस्या थी। इस समस्या को हल करने के लिए चंबा के राजा ने शहर से लगभग दो मील दूर सरोथा धारा से नहर के ज़रिए पानी लाने का आदेश दिया।
  • लोक-साहित्य के अनुसार, एक रात राजा को सपने में एक दिव्य आवाज़ सुनाई दी जिसमें कहा गया था कि नहर से पानी तभी आएगा जब रानी या राजा के किसी बेटे को पानी के स्रोत पर ज़िंदा दफनाया जाएगा। इसलिए, रानी ने अपने प्राण त्यागने का फ़ैसला किया।
  • बाद में राजा साहिल वर्मन ने शहर के ऊपर पहाड़ी की चोटी पर एक स्मारक बनवाया जहाँ नहर बहती है। रानी की याद में एक पत्थर की मूर्ति वहाँ स्थापित है। इस मूर्ति की आज भी चंबा के लोग बड़ी श्रद्धा से पूजा करते हैं।
