18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics held in Mumbai

 

  • The 18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) was held in Mumbai in August 2025. 
  • A record 64 countries participated in the event, which was hosted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). 
  • The Iranian team won all five gold medals, securing the world championship for the second consecutive year. 
  • The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) was conceived in 2006 as a response to the growing interest in astronomy among high-school students worldwide. 
  • The first IOAA was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in 2007.
