First International Pali Conference organized in Sri Lanka

 

  • The First International Pali Conference was organized in Kandy, Sri Lanka, in August 2025. 
  • It was a joint effort by India’s Assistant High Commission in Kandy and the University of Peradeniya, with the theme “The Future of the Pali Language”. 
  • The event brought together scholars to discuss the significance of the Pali language in Theravada traditions, manuscript studies, and its role as a living language. 
  • The Government of India formally designated Pali as a classical language in October 2024, in recognition of its rich heritage.
