- Two crops from Ladakh, Seabuckthorn and Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat, were sent to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of NASA’s Crew-11 experiment, which launched on August 1, 2025.
- The seeds were sourced by Protoplanet, an Indian space start-up based in Bengaluru, in collaboration with NASA and Jaguar Space.
- The purpose of this experiment on the International Space Station (ISS) is to study how these highly nutritious, cold-hardy crops respond to the stresses of space, such as microgravity, to assess their potential as a reliable food source for long-duration human space missions.
